Great performances in 'I Love You, Phillip Morris'

A sad, funny rom-com touching on the still difficult subject of gay love, and it’s based on real-life events.

Directors: Glenn Ficarra/John Requa

Cast: Jim Carrey, Leslie Mann, Ewan McGregor

Cert: 16

A sad, funny rom-com touching on the still difficult subject of gay love, and it’s based on real-life events.

And it stars Jim Carrey, bringing much, much more to his role than funny faces.

Carrey plays policeman and happily married Steve Russell whose life is dramatically altered following a car accident … he discovers he’s gay and then becomes a conman and fraudster who ends up in jail where he falls under the spell of the gentle Phillip Morris (McGregor).

This is an honest take on a deep, gay relationship told with compassion and humanity and laced with observation and insight.

It's all thanks to the two central performances we have characters we can sympathise with.
