Caine lifts 'Harry Brown' above the ordinary

Caine carries quite brilliantly what is otherwise a quite ordinary, and poorly scripted

vigilante film that takes its cue from such previous predictable revenge dramas as 'Death Wish'

… only Caine could bring something worthwhile to such unoriginal a film.

When his friend is murdered by thugs mild-mannered, ex-service, law-abiding widower Harry

Brown sets out to get revenge, and annoy the police.

What Caine brings to his character is age: short of breath, dodgy knees and creaking limbs

replace the customary macho posturing of such films though a ‘love’ interest hardly adds to

the plotline.
