Retailers want funding to protect 21,000 jobs

Retailers are warning they will apply for funding to protect 21,000 jobs in the sector.

It comes as the €250m Employment Subsidy Scheme - originally intended for exporters - is opened up to all industries.

Up to 95% of retailers say they will apply to the scheme.

Chief Executive of Retail Excellence Ireland David Fitzsimons said more funding is needed as things are looking very bleak in the sector.
