Greece’s finance minister is holding talks in Paris amid high tensions with international creditors, as his country’s new leftist leadership seeks to renegotiate huge debts.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is seeking to calm worries after a rocky few days.

His government wants to scrap some painful budget cuts and seek a cut in debt to those who bailed Greece out to save the euro.

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis is meeting French Economy Minister Emmanuel Macron and Finance Minister Michel Sapin today, a day earlier than originally planned.

He will then travel to London and Rome.

Germany has rejected suggestions that Greece should be forgiven part of its rescue loans.

France’s Socialist government is open to renegotiating terms but opposed to forgiving any of the Greek debt.
