Dublin-based group buys BP supply business

A fuel supply business operated by BP and used by customers for heating, cooking and industrial processes was sold for £40.5m (€51m) today.

BP’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution arm operates from 13 UK locations and has a fleet of 62 delivery vehicles supplying 87,000 tonnes a year of LPG for tanks and through a range of gas cylinders.

The Bristol-based business, which employs 116 people, has been bought by Dublin-based support services group DCC, which is already a nationwide supplier of LPG through its Flogas division.

The sale follows BP’s announcement in February that it intended to sell its bottles and tank-filling LPG businesses in countries including the UK, Portugal, Austria and China. It will retain its LPG automotive business.

Tufan Erginbilgic, BP chief operating officer for refining and marketing, said: “We believe DCC will be able to build on the good portfolio and business we have developed and grow the business further in the best interests of its customers and other stakeholders.”

BP, which set up the business 30 years ago, expects the deal to complete next month.

With annual sales of around 190,000 tonnes a year, Flogas has expanded through acquisitions including Alta Gas in 2001 and British Gas LPG in 2002.Home
