Diageo is more concerned with its image than its social responsibility

Last week I attended the Diageo-funded meeting here in Galway as part of their campaign to curb binge drinking.

Diageo is more concerned with its image than its social responsibility

Organisers included Dragon’s Den star, Gavin Duffy, psychologist Maureen Gaffney and a member of the National Parents Council.

People should be aware that profits driven multi-national Diageo hasn’t suddenly undergone a Road to Damascus conversion and woken up to their social responsibilities.

In Scotland they are supporting the Scotch Whisky Association in their legal action against the Scottish Government to bring in a minimum price for alcohol.

In 2009 they contracted Lewis Hamilton, a Formula One Champion, to lead a campaign against raising the drinking age.

Wake up people, this sponsorship is purely a PR exercise.
