With the county not having entered the Waterford Crystal Cup as it clashed with their team holiday, this was the Rebels’ first outing of the year. While its importance should not be over-emphasised, there were some encouraging signs, not least from newcomers in the white (due to a colour-clash) Cork jersey.
Manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy was pleased to get a winning start but stressed the importance of looking forward.
