Pupils’ pleas helped bring Corbett back

A letter written by pupils in St Mary’s NS, Irishtown, Clonmel influenced Tipp star Lar Corbett to return to county colours.

Pupils’ pleas helped bring Corbett back

The class, taught by Premier captain Paul Curran, begged their teacher in early February to persuade the attacker to come back and the defender revealed that was one of several letters sent to Corbett which had a major impact on the Thurles Sarsfields player.

“They wrote a letter when he decided to opt out,” Curran said.

“They were mad to write to him and we gave that to Larry. There must have been 20 letters, and I’d say it did touch him because he did say it was wonderful to see. Then when he was back they were all delighted and they were saying can we write another letter. I think they’re clever enough, they just want to get in to the computer room!”
