Boland brace for devastating Dubs

Dublin were clearly on a mission in Dr Cullen Park on Saturday after being ousted by Wexford last week.

From the off their defence broke up Carlow’s first attack and corner forward James Roche gave a glimpse of what was to come as he rounded his marker and calmly slotted the opening point.

Óisín O’Rourke scored a 15th minute goal which all but ended the match as a contest and another goal by Cian Boland helped them into a 2-11 to 0-2 interval lead.

It continued to be one-way traffic in the second-half with Carlow never coming to the pace of the game. Boland scored his second goal in the third quarter and three of the replacements laid claims for a starting place the next time out when shooting over five points between them.

At the end, Paul Winters was in the right place at the right time when a pile-driver from Chris Bennett rebounded into his path and the left half forward easily found the net from close range.

Marty Kavanagh was Carlow’s only scorer with three points from frees.
