Turning a blind eye aids abusers

THE latest survey of domestic abuse gives an alarming insight into life in Ireland today.

The first large-scale study of its kind conducted in this country, the ESRI study lifts society’s veil of secrecy and estimates that around 213,000 women and 88,000 men have been severely abused by a partner.

Significantly, while the risk to women is higher, the survey shows that domestic abuse is something that also affects a large number of men.
