McLeish sets his sights on Hearts

Inverness CT 2 Rangers 3

A battling win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle lifted Rangers above Hibernian into third place.

A horrendous run of results - including the longest winless streak in the club’s history - now appears to be behind the Scottish champions.

They still have a mountain to climb to prevent Celtic claiming their SPL crown this season, but McLeish believes Hearts - seven points ahead - are within their sights.

He said: “We’ve got to look above us, and not behind us, and keep the momentum going. We have to keep winning games and hope that the teams above us drop more points than us and we can put big pressure on them.”

Kris Boyd opened the scoring after just six minutes but that was cancelled out by Craig Dargo, before Marvin Andrews restored Rangers’ lead in controversial circumstances, Caley Thistle players claiming he used his arm to bundle over the line.

Boyd grabbed his second of the game from the penalty spot - his seventh goal in four matches for Rangers - before Dennis Wyness scored to set up a tense finish.
