Thompson injury a worry for O’Neill

MARTIN O’NEILL has been given an injury fright with the news that Alan Thompson is to have a scan on his left calf.

The in-form England hopeful recovered from a hamstring problem only to sustain another injury against Aberdeen on Saturday.

With so many crucial games on the horizon, domestically and in Europe, this latest visit to the treatment room will come as a major concern to both the midfielder and O’Neill.

But there is better news for the Celtic boss as Johan Mjallby continues to make good progress and looks likely to feature in tomorrow night’s U-21 game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Ulrik Laursen and Stephen Crainey are also set to return to full training and could join the rest of the squad in the coming weeks.

Celtic have moved five points clear of Rangers at the top of the Bank of Scotland Premier League, but the Celtic boss predicted there would still be many twists and turns in the race for the championship.
