Two men quizzed after drug busts

GARDAÍ were questioning two men yesterday in relation to separate drug seizures in Dublin and Athlone, Co Westmeath.

In the first haul, gardaí seized a significant quantity of heroin, worth an estimated €500,000, in Parkgate Street, in Dublin’s north inner city, at around 9pm on Monday.

Officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Kilmainham Divisional Drug Unit arrested a man along with the two kilos of heroin. The 30-year-old was detained at Kilmainham Station under section two of the Drug Trafficking Act. Meanwhile, gardaí in Athlone seized €50,000 worth of drugs late on Monday night.

The consignment, containing quantities of cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine, was found in a planned search of a house in the Monksland area of the town. A 26-year-old man was detained under section two of the Drug Trafficking Act.
