‘Outing’ of Mooney comment ‘unfortunate’
The Irish-American comedian was on Ray D’Arcy’s Today FM show when he made comments about the broadcaster.
Ray D’Arcy said the incident was “unfortunate” adding that he was sure “Derek would like to keep his private life private”. An RTÉ spokesman wouldn’t comment yesterday. Mr Bishop’s blip came about when D’Arcy asked him for an exclusive and the comedian said “I’m gay” before adding “I’m not, but hey”.
Ray D’Arcy responded: “You’re very comfortable with your sexuality?”. Mr Bishop replied: “Me and Derek Mooney are doing a show”. Des Bishop also found himself in hot water in the past month when he supposedly insulted a Tourette’s syndrome sufferer at a Limerick gig.
A spokesman for Mr Mooney said: “Derek won’t comment. His personal life is his personal life.”
