Tipperary All Starcan make amends

TIPPERARY ALL STAR, a big disappointment at Naas last time, gets the nap to redress the balance in the first division of the Swords Maiden Hurdle at Fairyhouse, which is the subject of a 7am inspection following heavy rain yesterday and the threat of overnight frost.

Michael Halford’s charge was making his debut over flights then and was heavily backed, ending up an odds-on chance.

But he could only manage a poor fourth, finishing over ten lengths adrift of the winner, Feathard Lady.

The form isn’t exactly working out with runner-up, Emotional Article, since getting beaten by Lord Gunnerslake at Fairyhouse.

The selection, however, who was particularly smart on the flat, is entitled to the benefit of the doubt and may come on a bundle for his initial experience over jumps.

The second section of the same contest may be best left to Dolphin Bay, another having a second pop at this game.

He wasn’t in the same league on the level as Tipperary All Star, but did make a reasonably promising start to his new career when going down to Border Quaich on this track last week.

Paddy Mullins’ New Field gets the nod in the Blanchardstown Maiden Hurdle, having looked a useful enough sort in the making when taking a Fairyouse bumper back in February.

His most interesting rival has to be Capt Pugwash, who is now in the care of Ted Walsh. He finished second in a bumper a year ago at Sandown when in the care of Barry Hills.

Bold As Brass, beaten a length and a half by Overbury Affair in a 29-runner event at Leopardstown last Christmas, is the choice in the Bumper.
