Co-ops have to ‘deliver viable prices’

Dairy co-ops will be challenged at an IFA dairy seminar in the Silver Springs Hotel, Cork, on October 12 to pay viable milk prices.

Prospectus Report author Diarmaid Ó Corrbuí, Irish Dairy Board Chairman Michael Cronin and ICOS president Padraig Gibbons will be among the speakers.

IFA Dairy Committee chairman Michael Murphy said: "We want them to focus not on the soft option of price cuts farmers have already lost 9,000 over the last few years... but on implementing decisions to deliver viable milk prices."

He said co-ops need to remember that their future and that of our industry depends on dairy farmers having enough confidence to invest on their farms.
