Man can be talk of the Town

TOM TAAFFE’S Man About Town is a confident choice to land the Slaney Novice Hurdle at Wexford this afternoon.

The five-year-old got off the mark over flights at Clonmel last month, making all the running in the hands of Barry Geraghty.

He was, admittedly, all out in the closing stages to hold the late surge of Arc En Ciel, scoring by half a length.

But Arc En Ciel didn’t let the form down when beaten a short head by Maverick Dancer in a Cork handicap on Sunday and the selection will surely come on for what was effectively his first pop over flights, having fallen at the first on his debut at Punchestown.

The useful Waterlily has to be fancied to get away to a winning start over fences in the Vinegar Hill Beginners Chase.

Jessica Harrington’s charge has some smart form over flights to her credit, rounding off last season by finishing third to Criaire Princess at Limerick in March.

Feature event is the valuable Bettyville Handicap Chase and a hopeful vote in this one falls on Carneys Cross.

He stayed on strongly to beat Old Kilminchy by three lengths at Naas and the form was boosted when sixth placed Garvivonnian scored at Cork on Sunday.

Russian Buck, fifth behind The Fingersmith at Galway 18 days ago, gets the nod in the Bumper.

Border Quaich, a place and two lengths adrift of Russian Buck, won at Fairyhouse on Wednesday.
