Corus to scrap some plants

Saturday, December 05, 2009

London: Corus Group, the European unit of India’s Tata Steel, will mothball the blast furnace and some coke ovens at its Teesside plant in Britain and cut 1,700 jobs after a group of four customers stopped buying metal.

The operations will be mothballed at the end of January at a cost of £80m, Corus chief executive Kirby Adams said.

Teesside’s Redcar Wharf and Redcar Coke Ovens will stay open.
