League switch set for Leota

Big-hitting Wasps hooker Trevor Leota is being lined up for a summer switch to rugby league in a bid to keep him in shape for next season.

The London Broncos are interested in recruiting the 20-stone Samoan and Wasps director of rugby Warren Gatland has warmed to the idea.

"I'm thinking about it. I haven't spoken to London Broncos yet but Trevor made an approach to me about wanting to play for them," he said.

"I don't want him to go back up to 135kg over the summer when he should be under 122. If anyone can think of a better way I'd be interested to hear about it."

Former Wigan and Great Britain rugby league star Shaun Edwards now a coach at Wasps backed the idea, although he hinted Leota might struggle in some areas.

He said: "He'd create a lot of interest. I'd pay to watch Trevor play against the big Bradford forwards. How he'd last 10 minutes of moving up and down 10 metres is the question. But the first five minutes would be explosive!"
