Ruby Thunders to victory

RUBY WALSH was re-routed from Dublin airport to Gowran Park last night and delighted punters as he guided well-backed favourite Thunder Road to victory in the Gowran Park Charity Golf Classic Handicap Hurdle.

Walsh was due to ride at Epsom last night but the meeting was abandoned due to the events in London yesterday morning.

So Walsh became available and his services were snapped up by trainer Pat Fahy after Thunder Road's intended partner Tommy Ryan was shaken after a fall when schooling.

Thunder Road gave Walsh an armchair ride, coming through smoothly to lead approaching the final flight before quickening clear for an effortless victory and trainer Fahy now intends aiming the five-year-old mare at the Galway Festival, where she is likely to run both on the flat and over hurdles.

Walsh's sister Katie continued her terrific strike rate for Willie Mullins when partnering the debutante Madam Leader to a convincing all the way victory in the Blackstairs Flat Race.

Earlier, Cathy Gannon partnered odds-on favourite Powder Paint to victory in the www.gowranpark.ie Median Auction race, although punters who traded at odds-on had a few anxious moments as the daughter of Mark of Esteem wandered left in the closing stages.

Pat Smullen was on the mark when partnering the Paddy Carey-trained Broomfield Lad to a hard-earned win in the first division of the Kilkenny Handicap.

Jomacomi, successful on the all-weather in England last season and disqualified after scoring at Tipperary recently, made amends when winning the Thomastown Maiden Hurdle for trainer Charles Byrnes and jockey Davy Russell.
