Derry hosts World Ploughing contest

THE 51st World Ploughing contest will be staged on the shores of Lough Foyle in Co Derry on September 3 and 4.

It will be the fourth time the contest will be hosted by the Northern Ireland Ploughing Association.

The event will be held on a 170 hectare farm at Ballykelly. An arable unit, growing barley, wheat and peas plus thirty hectares of forestry, it will accommodate the entire event including the official practice ground, trade exhibition and car parking.

The 2006 world contest will be held in Carlow with the National Ploughing Association as host.

Meanwhile, preparations for this year's national championships in Tullow, Co Carlow (September 28-30) are well underway.

Next year's event will be held at Mogeely in east Cork.
