Sports Council put their trust in Owens

Brendan Mooney

Mr Owens, of Rainmaker Business Catalysts, has been appointed by the Irish Sports Council to ensure the smooth transition of a Strategic Plan aimed at developing the sport, and its management, for the 21st century.

AAI spokesperson Pierce O’Callaghan said: “The Athletics Association of Ireland has been involved in a review process over the past number of months to determine the future strategy for the organisation,” he said.

“The implementation of this strategy will involve significant transition for the association and in order to facilitate this, we are pleased to announce that Gary Owens of Rainmaker Business Catalysts, has been appointed to manage this programme of change.

“Gary brings with him significant business transformation experience and was responsible as managing director for the successful integration of four companies into Hibernian Insurance in 2000.

“Currently a director and partner of Rainmaker Business Catalysts, who are providing a similar service to a number of large companies in Ireland, Gary is an active athlete and completed both the New York and Dublin marathons in the last two years.”

While there has been some concern over the impending changes among the membership O’Callaghan is confident the change will be positive.
