Group purchasing initiative

A NEW service is aimed at Munster farmers who want to buy farm inputs cheaper, but are shopping for too small an amount to make it interesting for the supplier.
Group purchasing initiative

Buyrite Solutions offers group purchasing services to more than 500 farmer members. By tracking seasonal demand trends for products such as dairy detergents, veterinary products, plastics, feed supplements, oil, Buyrite Solutions aims to deliver them to members at the best possible price.for .

Offers and prices are text messaged to members, who can then compare with the prices quoted locally.

If they choose to do business with Buyrite, their phone staff will deal with any product queries that may arise such as application rates, best usage, quantities required.

The product is delivered directly to the member within a few days and paid for by direct debit at the end of the month. During the past two years, Buyrite Solutions have been developing this service in Cos Wexford, Kilkenny and Waterford. They have now decided to extend to Cos Tipperary, Limerick, Kerry and Cork, and they are aiming to increase their business to 1.5m per year.

Buyrite Solutions is a subsidiary of the Enniscorthy based Solutions Group farmers co-op, in business since 1979, having developed from Wexford FRS.

Pat Doran, manager of Buyrite Solutions, promises a practical, secure and convenient group purchasing service, without the hassle and commitment traditionally encountered in purchasing groups, and saving farmers the time spent shopping around.

He says suppliers and farmers must work together to take out unnecessary input costs, at this time of pressure on farm product prices.

He sees opportunities also for farm input suppliers, in the access to larger orders, and better credit management.

The company has appointed agents to talk to Munster farmers.
