First Division clubs agree on AIL structure

THE First Division clubs involved in the All Ireland League (AIL) have finally come to an agreement.

The clubs have agreed to support the continuity of the existing AIL scheme of a 14-team structure.

Even though there are 15 teams at the moment, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) have decided to cut that by one. The First Division clubs, however, will demand from the IRFU that club rugby be supported and developed as well as marketed.

They are prepared to accept a 14 division league, with promotion and relegation, whilst accepting proposals from the IRFU for the current second and third division clubs.
