No need for Wicklow auction
The land was sold the day before its auction to two interested parties, according to Mr Quinn, and made ‘well in excess of its guide price’, although he wouldn’t disclose the sum involved.
The farm, which would have been auctioned in four lots last Friday, was sold in two lots, with the farmhouse, yard and 50 acres going to an adjoining farmer.
The remainder of the land, some 232 acres, was bought by a Dublin-based solicitor in trust, but Mr Quinn expects that a local farmer could be behind the purchase of the grassland farm.
It was expected to make upwards of €3 million, but made more in the two lots, averaging €13,000 per acre. According to David Quinn, sales locally have gone as high as €30,000 per acre.
“Glenealy is in East Wicklow which has seen a lot of development and CPO money with farmers looking to replace what they’ve lost. In general, people still put money into land, it’s what they know and investments have been very fruitful, land is still looking good.”
