Detectives have begun the process of tracing the last movements of Mick Creighton in a bid to establish what led to his death.

A post mortem yesterday confirmed that the popular community worker suffered extensive injuries.

Mr Creighton was found by gardaí at his apartment in Belvedere Court on Castle Street in Mullingar at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

“It would appear he suffered injuries, quite extensive injuries to his body, that then led to complications which led to his death,” said Supt Padraig Rhattigan of Mullingar Garda Station.

It’s understood Mr Creighton was found on the floor of his apartment and he had been bound.

There were no obvious signs of a break-in. The alarm was raised by relatives who had not seen him for days.

Gardaí spotted the body through a second-floor window.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man between 11am on Friday morning and 4.30pm on Sunday to contact them.

An incident room has been set up at Mullingar Garda Station and can be contacted on 044-48915.
