Injury problems mounting for Kearns

A WEEK away from taking on Laois in their opening league game, Liam Kearns might wonder about his team’s form after beating Cork in poor conditions and victories over three third-level teams in the McGrath Cup.

Injury problems mounting for Kearns

The Limerick manager pointed out his squad has been ‘ravaged’ by injuries and face a daunting task against the 2003 Leinster champions.

With Eoin Hickey breaking his collar bone on Saturday, Kearns revealed that only 20 members of his squad of 30 were available for yesterday’s game with CIT. And he made no secret of his dissatisfaction with their first-half form.

“Ger Ahern got a great goal for us, but it was totally against the run of play. They could have been five points up at half time,” he said.

John Quane celebrated his return to inter-county football after being nominated to receive the winning trophy.

“I had been happy to call it a day last year, but with the two midfielders out injured, after all we have been through together I just couldn’t say no when I was asked back,” he explained.
