Forde to appeal 12 week ban

WEXFORD’S Mattie Forde is to appeal a three-month suspension imposed on him by the Central Disciplinary Committee on Friday.

The former GPA Player of the Year was punished for stepping on the head of Offaly’s Shane Sullivan in the Leinster SFC semi-final three weeks ago.

Wexford secretary Mick Kinsella said the board supports the player.

“It will be appealed obviously. We owe that to him anyway.

“The most disappointing aspect was that it was shown on the big screen in Croke Park not once but twice,” he told The Sunday Independent. “There was a mistake made, we can’t deny that, but we are saying that it was not intentional or deliberate. The guy he stood on wasn’t injured.”
