Video of drunk Irish people explaining Rising was in bad taste

I have read the Cork Examiner in many formats and identities and in many worldwide locations since I was a child having my Corn Flakes before cycling to school in Ballintotis in County Cork in the 80s.

In fact, it armed my brothers and I to many a successful table quiz outing pre-Internet.

I was also an avid supporter of the Cork Examiner AFC in the Shipping League from 1987, attending as many games as I could over several years.

However, I need to advise you that the video of “Irish people explain the 1916 Rising… while drunk” that you have posted to your website and promoted on Facebook is highly disrespectful and in very bad taste.

There is more to being Irish than being drunk.

Being Irish is being true to the qualities of respect and fairness in balance to our passion for life and adventure.

I expect the same exercise to depict a Martin Luther Civil Rights march or the fallen in the Battle of the Somme would not be attempted.

You are better than this, you are the Irish Examiner.
