Labour and SF would make good allies
Could I suggest that, rather than talk up the possibility of an alliance between Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin, he ponders instead the remarkable similarity between the policies of his own Labour party and Sinn Féin?
For, on the economic front, the two parties are very similar indeed. Just as SF have supported increasing taxes on investment and jobs, so too has the Labour party favoured the doubling of capital gains tax and increasing employers’ PRSI.
In fact, Labour seem to have more in common with Sinn Féin than they do with Fine Gael. Just recently in the Dáil, Roisín Shortall endorsed a Sinn Féin motion opposing the sale of Aer Lingus. Fine Gael have welcomed the proposal that the state sells a majority shareholding in the airline. Fine Gael have also rejected any increase in capital gains tax.
So, it seems to me that the most likely fellow-travellers for Sinn Féin will be found in the Labour Party.
