Man due in court in relation to assault on tourist in Dublin
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident which occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street in Dublin 1 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A man is due in court in Dublin in relation to a violent assault which left a Canadian tourist in a serious condition in hospital.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident which occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street in Dublin 1 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were later arrested in connection with this incident.
One of them, the man in his 20s, has been charged and will appear before Court 1 of the CCJ this morning.
The second man has since been released from custody.
A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing and a file will be prepared for submission to the office of the director of public prosecutions (DPP).
The victim, a tourist aged in his 40s from Canada, remains in hospital in a serious condition.
Gardaí are looking to speak with any individuals who were in the Cathal Brugha Street area, near the Living Room Bar, between 12:40am and 1:00am and any individuals who were on O’Connell Street Upper near the Spar Shop / Funland/ Tourism Office, opposite the Spire, between 12:40am and 1:00am Sunday morning.
Anyone with camera footage, including dash cam, has been asked to make this available to gardaí.
