Sally Gorman always includes “a splash of colour” in her everyday attire.

The digital journalist, who tied the knot with Steven Lynam in her native Rochfortbridge, Co Westmeath, says: “You'd seldom see me wearing just black or just white so I didn’t want to be any different on my wedding day — but I didn’t want to be predictably different!

“And I was afraid I might look back at pictures in 20 or 30 years’ time and part of me wanted it to look traditional.”

The solution? A bespoke colourful veil, created by Mags Morgan of Mizz Rio, Dublin ( mizzrio.ie), who also designed Sally's wedding dress. “So it’s business in the front, party at the back!” adds the bride.

She and the groom, from Raharney, Co Westmeath, were married at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Meedin, by Fr Stan Deegan and held their reception at Glasson Lakehouse, Co Westmeath. “When I was walking up the aisle you could hear audible gasps — someone at the top of the church had thought I had fallen!” says Sally.

A video of the bridal stroll to the altar was also a TikTok sensation and “went crazy” on the social media site, she says.

They have been best friends since they met in their first year of secondary school St Joseph’s Secondary School in Rochfortbridge but Sally and Steven didn't officially get together until 2018.

Sally and Steven moved to Toronto the following year where they spent the next three and a half years and got engaged in the Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris, in 2022.

They chose the engagement ring together in Ennell Jewellers, Mullingar, where Sally had worked during her student years. “Returning there to get my ring was very special,” she says.

“I loved working there. I would also have sold engagement rings in my time but the owner Anna-Mai Bradley is the main woman. She designed my diamond and ruby ring with me and she made it all such a nice, personal experience.”

The couple had just returned from Canada that week and Anna-Mai gave them the celeb treatment in more ways than one. “The Fleadh was on in Mullingar at the time so the streets we packed. It was a job to get in and out without being seen so Anna-Mai was able to get us in and out the side entrance!”

Planning the wedding turned out to be just as fun and exciting, says Sally: “I actually loved it. A few of my friends have said [of their own wedding planning] they’d never do it again but I’d do it in a heartbeat! I’m not an overly stressed person.”

At the heart of the action were Sally’s parents Joan and Eamonn Gorman and Steven’s mum and dad Caroline and David Lynam, as well as the bride's grandparents Patsy and Kathleen Gunning and Angie Gorman, and the groom's grandmother Queenie Frawley.

Sally’s sisters Andrea Flynn and Faye Gorman were the maid of honour and bridesmaid and her niece Noa Flynn was the flowergirl. Steven’s brother Wayne Lynam was the best man and his friend Ian Hyland was the groomsman.

The groom and his party were dapper thanks to Guy Clothing in Tullamore. The bridal hairstyling was by 9 Muses in Mullingar and make up by Tara Henry Makeup in Croghan. Lauren Tynan was the church singer and later the band The Seducers ensured the dance floor was packed.

Sheefin Flowers in Mullingar created the floral décor and the cake was by Sandra Walsh, Take the Biscuit, Rochfortbridge.
