A weddingthat celebrated Irish and Scottish traditions presented the father-of-the-bride with an irresistible line for his speech.

William Lane was “the only man at the top table who was wearing trousers”, he cheerfully announced to the gathering at the reception at Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa, Adare, Co Limerick.

But the groom and his party had no reason to complain — Bruce Cameron and his attendants looked debonair wearing kilts handmade by Chisholm kiltmakers in Scotland.

“All the kilts are family tartans and were hired from Slater kilt-hire in Inverness,” says the bride Shauna Lane, from Brosna, Co Kerry.

Shauna and Bruce’s paths first crossed six years ago when she moved to his native Thurso in Scotland due to her work as a podiatrist.

“Two weeks after that, we met in a pub in Thurso called Holborn Hotel on a night out in August 2018,” she says.

Three years later, on August 4, 2021, Bruce popped the question in their hotel room in the Malone Hotel, Belfast, penned in by the weather and a failed trip to the botanical gardens.

“The gardens were shut and it had started pouring rain!” says Shauna.

But nothing could dampen spirits as they were married in the Woodlands recently by wedding celebrant Tríona O’Callaghan.

Both sets of parents, Martha and William Lane and Karen and Colin Cameron, and Bruce’s grandmother, Kit Cameron, toasted to their future happiness.

The bride’s friends were by her side, with Megan Nevin as maid of honour and Marie Lane, Sarah O’Keeffe and Suzanne Curtin as bridesmaids.

The groom’s brother Ryan Cameron was his best man, and his friends Jack Hutton, Deklan McIntosh and Eoin MacDonald were his groomsmen.

“Everything ran seamlessly thanks to the Woodlands’ wonderful staff. I had a beautiful and precious drive from my home house to the venue with my father. The ceremony music by Claire Heffernan brought a Celtic feel, especially to the handfasting ceremony. We enjoyed a beautiful meal by the Woodlands Hotel and a gorgeous Scottish-themed cake by Heavenly Baked.”

William and Shauna also took to the floor for “an amazing father-daughter dance”, she adds. “Our wedding band, Heart and Soul, had the dance floor full all night. We enjoyed dancing traditional ceili dances from Ireland and Scotland with Strip the Willow and Siege of Ennis. The DJ Jeremiah Roche continued a great party for the rest of the night. He played both 'Brosna Town' for me and 'Flower of Scotland' for Bruce and the fun continued into the night with all our guests singing Irish and Scottish songs and anthems,” says Shauna.

The groom’s grandmother also loved being at the heart of the action. “Nana Kit thoroughly enjoyed her trip to Ireland from Scotland at the great age of 89,” says the bride.

Shauna found her dream wedding dress at Finesse Bridal Wear in Listowel, Co Kerry, and Linda O’Grady was her hairstylist with Maeve Carey as the makeup artist.

“We had a relaxed and fun-filled bridal party that made the getting-ready aspect of things very enjoyable and memorable. The craic was mighty throughout the whole wedding day,” says Shauna.

Martin Cleary of Cleary’s Photography, Tralee, Co Kerry (clearysphotography.ie), was behind the camera and Flowers By Sheila created the floral decor.

The newlyweds honeymooned for a week in Tenerife and a few weeks in Germany.

Shauna recently finished a master’s in Diagnostic Radiography at UCC and is looking forward to starting work as a radiographer soon and Bruce is a mechanic.

They will live in Brosna.
