FF have the trappings but SF want the power
It would be almost incestuous for these two sweethearts to get into bed together, especially as the latter approach their republican duties with missionary zeal... a position, so to speak, which Fianna Fáil has been practising on the rest of the electorate with matrimonial regularity, but can’t be expected to impose on their own flesh and blood in Sinn Féin.
Birds of a feather they may be, but the featherdown quilt better symbolises the senior republican party as they approach their dotage.
No doubt, they still appreciate the trappings of power, the creature comforts and memories of a red-roaring past. But the young pretenders in Sinn Féin are not so much interested in any new marital arrangements as in a refinement of their new martial plan... a now bloodless takeover not of the trappings, but of the reins of power.
Fianna Fáil never saw it coming.
