Investigation launched after remains identified

Gardaí have identified the remains of a man found in the Dublin Mountains over the weekend as those of Ken Fetherston.

His family has now been notified and a full garda investigation into his death is now underway.

The 26-year-old had been missing from his home in Tallaght since September 22 last year.

He was last seen at around 10.30am that morning at Landy's industrial estate in Knocklyon.

He was driving a red Honda Civic, registration number 93 D 44862. The car was located four days later near Gorey in Co Wexford.

His skeletal remains were found by a passerby in a ditch near the junction of Military Road and Piperstown Road at around 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

Gardaí said that at this stage they are not releasing details of how he died but evidence found in the car, will help with the murder investigation that is now underway.

Superintendent John Gilligan said searches are still underway in the Dublin Mountains.

The Fetherston family were told of the news this morning and are now appealing for privacy as they try come to terms with their son's murder.
