Uncapped Sligo native Johnny Kenny has replaced the inured Troy Parrott in the Ireland squad for the opening World Cul qualifiers which begin with Hungary's visit to Lansdowne Road on Saturday (7.45pm).
Celtic striker Kenny progressed through the underage ranks and earns his first call-up after in-form AZ Alkmaar forward Parrott was ruled out with injury.
He’ll participate in today’s opening training session at the FAI training base in Abbotstown.
All other 22 players selected by Heimir Hallgrimsson will report for duty ahead of the double header that concludes next Tuesday away to Armenia in Yerevan.
Today’s final day of the transfer window will involve moves for some Irish players.
Adam Idah is in Wales to finalise his €9m transfer from Celtic to Swansea City, where he’ll reunite with Darren O’Dea, the assistant to compatriot Alan Sheehan.
Chiedozie Ogbene is also on the move, departing Ipswich Town on loan for gametime after recovering from a long-term Achilles injury. Sheffield United are understood to be keen on the Corkman.
Fellow Leesider Alan Browne isn’t in the squad but will likely be involved in a deal before the 7pm deadline. He’s yet feature since Sunderland earned promotion and will seek a fresh challenge back in the Championship.
