Dual role 'not practical' for Kerins
Connacht Club Footballer of the Year Alan Kerins is unlikely to play any part in the Galway senior football team's Championship campaign.
Speaking at the launch of the Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Football Championship, Galway manager Peter Ford conceded that he wanted Kerins on board but that the 29-year-old seems certain to commit to Conor Hayes' hurling panel.
Ford said: "I talked with Alan a few months ago (about playing football), but I don't think it will happen.
"It's not practical. Alan is doing a lot of charity work. He has the hurling and a physiotherapy practice as well. He has a lot on his plate."
An All-Ireland winner with Salthill-Knocknacarra in March, Kerins would be a valuable addition to Ford's side, but has not lined out for the county footballers since 2002.
Earlier this week, the Kilcolgan native was nominated for the Rehab Galway Person of the Year award for his charity work, which has seen more than €250,000 raised for children in Zambia.
