Suspected cocaine ‘bullets’ and cash recovered during Cork City garda operation

Suspected cocaine “bullets” were seized when up to 40 gardaí, some of them armed, searched a housing complex in Cork City yesterday morning.
The Garda Armed Support Unit aided with the search in Hollyhill in the northside of Cork City, which was part of an operation targeting cocaine supply in Cork.
A quantity of drugs, believed to be cocaine, was seized during the garda operation. This was stored in small, chalk-like “bullets” and was recovered in two separate packages.
One of these packages was found on communal ground near the housing complex in Hollyhill, which is near Apple’s European headquarters in Cork City.
A quantity of cash was also seized during the course of the garda operation.
No arrests were made yesterday, the understands.

The garda operation began at approximately 7.45am and concluded shortly after 11am.
The housing complex has been the subject of previous garda searches, including a large-scale raid that was carried out last year.
A charity was called to retrieve animals found in the area, which were believed to be in a state of serious neglect.
A second drugs search was also carried out at a house on Cork City’s southside, near Evergreen Rd, later in the day.
Drugs were also seized during this second search operation.
Extra garda training is currently under way ahead of the EU presidency, which begins on July 1.
As part of this, additional garda search teams are currently operating in Cork, it is understood, providing increased personnel for any planned searches.
