Gardaí are investigating an assault on a woman visiting Cork Prison.

The incident occurred during inmate visitation on Wednesday. The Irish Prison Service reported the matter to gardaí, who have launched an investigation.

The woman received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and was visibly shocked by the attack. The man who assaulted her is known to her.

Emergency services were called, and the woman was treated on site before being taken to hospital for further assessment.
