Pre-production is currently underway in Limerick following the successful filming of the Wayfinders pilot episode in the region in October 2023.

The Mid-West has further cemented its reputation as the hot new location for the film industry with the news that cameras are set to roll on an “epic” fantasy series.

As well as an invaluable showcase for the region, The Wayfinders will also provide a jobs boost with 140 crew members and up to 200 extras on set each day in Limerick’s Troy Studios and locations across the region.

Pre-production is currently underway in Limerick following the successful filming of the pilot episode in the region in October 2023, which starred Mackenzie Crook and was directed by Glen Winter (Arrow, Smallville).

Starring Crook (The Office, Pirates of the Caribbean), the series, likened to a 'Dungeons and Dragons' type adventure, is set in a richly imagined world of myth, magic, and ancient conflict.

The Wayfinders follows a band of unlikely heroes as they journey through a fractured realm in search of unity, purpose, and power, featuring a cast of both rising stars and familiar faces.

With pre-production already underway, filming is set to begin later this month and bring myth, magic and ancient conflict to the Mid-West.

Further announcements regarding casting and release dates are expected in the coming weeks.

That’s according to Film in Limerick, who are “proud to welcome back” the production which emphasises the growing interest for filming in the region.

Regional film manager at Film in Limerick, Paul C Ryan, said: “We were thrilled to bring the pilot to the region and are even more excited to see the full series now filming in Limerick and the wider region. It’s a testament to the talent of our local crews, the quality of our facilities, and the growing reputation of the Mid-West as a leading hub for film and television production.”

Producer Stephen Hall of Dark Day Pictures said: “As a Limerick local, it's so exciting to be making our magical show in the region and putting our wonderful locations and talented crew front and centre, on the world stage. The support from the councils, businesses and the community has been incredible.

"We have so much to offer in the Mid-West, it's quite special to build the film community here with the help of Film In Limerick and the talent of the local crew.”

The pilot episode was filmed at Troy Studios and Pery Square in Limerick and throughout the Mid-West region, including at Knappogue Castle and Cratloe Woods in Clare, with battle shots filmed in Cahir Castle and beside The Rock of Cashel in Tipperary.
