A 36-year-old man accused of thousands of euro in deception and theft charges had sentencing in his case put back until July 1 at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Andrew O’Donoavan, of 4 Wyse’s Cottages, Blarney Street, Cork, affirmed his guilty pleas to four charges and faces sentencing for those charges.

However, when the case was called at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, his barrister Nikki O’Sullivan said the probation service pre-sentencing report was not yet complete.

Judge Helen Boyle agreed to adjourn sentencing until July.

All four counts against Andrew O’Donovan relate to dates between July 20, 2024, and August 5, 2024. The first states that at Ticknock, Cobh, he stole €2,000 cash. The second was for inducing parties at that location to pay him €2,000 for a battery with the intention of making a gain for himself or causing a loss for another.

The next count was of stealing €2,000 cash at Turner’s Cross, Cork. Finally, he admitted stealing from another party cash of €2,000 at Ticknock.

The circumstances that gave rise to those charges were not outlined when the matter was before the court.

Ms O’Sullivan said: “He has addiction issues. He has had some engagement with Coolmine. I believe he has issues the probation service could assist him with.”
