Sunday, March 24, 2024 marked the 56th anniversary of one of Ireland's most tragic events, the crash of Aerlingus flight 712 which went down near Tuskar Rock in 1968 killing all 61 passengers and crew, only 14 of the bodies were ever recovered.

In solidarity, for the last five years, the families of the victims, many travelling from abroad, have been gathering in the Shannon bell tower on the anniversary of the disaster to read out the names of each of the victims and toll the bells in their memory.

There was a call by Jerome McCormick, who lost brother Neil in the crash to make Tuskar Rock a national memorial site in the honour of those who's bodies are still submerged in its shadow.
