Trial postponed as juror recognises witness

The trial of two Dublin men accused of murdering a 64-year-old woman was put off until tomorrow after a juror recognised a witness in the trial at the Central Criminal Court.

Conor Grogan (aged 26), of Avonbeg Park, Tallaght, Dublin, and Timothy Rattigan (aged 26) of St Dominick’s Terrace, Tallaght, Dublin, have pleaded not guilty to the murder of Ms Joan Casey (aged 64) at Avonbeg Park on April 3, 2004.

The trial was due to begin today, but was adjourned until tomorrow after a jury member indicated that she recognised a person associated with the trial.

Mr Justice Paul Carney ordered that the juror be replaced.

The trial is expected to begin tomorrow.
