RTÉ want ban of junk food ads for children
The Green Party is welcoming an offer by RTÉ to restrict junk food advertising aimed at children.
The national broadcaster has made a submission to the Broadcasting Commission but it said it can only work if other TV stations offer to comply.
The BCI last week revealed it was planning to ban cartoon characters and TV celebrities from appearing in junk food ads in an effort to stem the growth of childhood obesity.
The Green's communications spokesman, Eamon Ryan, said it's the first step to tackling the problem.
