Perry joins father after Friends

Friends star Matthew Perry and his father, actor John Bennett Perry, are set to appear as father and son in new movie The Beginning of Wisdom.

Peter Hunt is in final negotiations to direct the project, which is budgeted in the £3m (€4.8m) range, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Production is expected to begin in April or May, shortly after Perry finishes the ninth, and probably last, season of the hit show Friends.

The Beginning of Wisdom is set during the 1970s and would see the Perry duo star as Harley and Del Lemke.

When Harley’s wife suddenly dies, Del must hire outside help to care for his father at the family ranch. He hires Star, a free-spirited young woman who has led a gypsy life, and although Harley can’t stand her at first, she soon begins to grow on him. Eventually, Harley learns to open up to others including his own son.

The producers are still looking for an actress to play feisty Star.

The Perrys have played father and son on the big screen before – they most recently worked together on the 1997 Columbia Pictures feature Fools Rush In.
