How did you get started in Servisource’s Permanent Healthcare division?

I joined Servisource Healthcare in October 2013 to establish the Permanent Healthcare division. At the time, I was the sole team member on the desk and entered the role without prior experience in nursing or healthcare-specific disciplines. Since then, I have grown the team to 10 direct reports across Ireland, the UK, India, and the UAE. Under my leadership, we have become a preferred supplier to the HSE nationwide in Ireland and place Healthcare staff in the UK, UAE, USA, Australia and Germany.

Why did you choose to work with Servisource?

Prior to joining Servisource, I spent 11 years working in the property sector. Seeking a new challenge and career direction, I transitioned into recruitment. Having known our CEO, Declan Murphy from his time as a property developer, and with a strong background in sales, I recognised that my skill set would be highly transferable to the recruitment industry.

What are you working on at present?

I am currently leading our international expansion efforts, successfully placing candidates across the Middle East and the United States. Our next targeted growth markets include Australia and Germany.

What is the best part of your job?

I take great pride in leading a dedicated and collaborative team, whose commitment and camaraderie make each day rewarding. Over the years at Servisource, I’ve also built lasting professional relationships and friendships with colleagues such as Davey Caldwell, James McGeown, and Martina Young — individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside for over 12 years.

What is a defining career moment or high point?

My promotion to Associate Director in 2023 marked a significant milestone in my career. It was a meaningful recognition of the dedication, leadership, and consistent performance I had demonstrated over the years, and I was proud to have my contributions formally acknowledged by both CPL and Servisource.

What's the best piece of professional advice you've received?

One piece of valuable advice I received from Declan Murphy, has stayed with me: "You have two ears and one mouth—use them in that proportion." It’s a reminder to actively listen, absorb, and understand before speaking. He also encouraged me to prioritise building meaningful client relationships by getting out in front of people and networking, engaging directly and not relying solely on digital communication.

If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice at the start of your career, what would that be?

If I could offer advice to my younger self, it would be to walk before trying to run, to embrace patience, trust the process and understand that growth and success take time and consistency.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about interviewing for this position?

Success in this industry requires hard work, adaptability, and resilience. No two days are the same, and it’s essential to develop a thick skin while remaining focused and flexible. Surrounding yourself with capable, driven individuals is key. Having the right people around you make all the difference in delivering results and enjoying the journey.

What would you say are the key skills and capabilities necessary to be good at what you do?

To succeed in my role, a combination of strategic thinking and commercial awareness is essential to align team objectives with broader business goals and respond effectively to market dynamics. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are critical for engaging clients, supporting candidates, and fostering collaboration across teams and regions. Adaptability and resilience are also key, as the demands of the industry are ever-changing and require a calm, solutions-focused approach. Equally important is the ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, empowering individuals, nurturing talent and creating a culture of accountability and shared success.

What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?

One of the most valuable career lessons I’ve learned is that growth takes time and patience is just as important as ambition. Early in my career, I was eager to move quickly, but I’ve come to understand the importance of building strong foundations, learning from setbacks, and trusting the process. True leadership isn’t about immediate results; it’s about consistency, resilience, and investing in people and relationships over the long-term.
