There’s plenty to put on your wish list

A HOUSE on the main Douglas Road in Cork for €220,000? Surely some mistake.

There’s plenty to put on your wish list

Coming hot on the heels of last week’s glorious big Edwardian semi Ivydene, which went blithely past its€1.6 million guide to sell for an unconfirmed €2.2 million, is 3 Whitethorn, another semi but with a difference: its guide price is a mere 10% of the value placed by keen buyers on its bigger but nearby Douglas Road neighbour.

The bite-size buy at 3 Whitethorn is listed in more ways than one: estate agent Joe Gavin of James G Coughlan has the formal sale listing, but the house itself is listing as well — towards Douglas.

“It needs everything done, as well as underpinning for subsidence, and the roof is gone at the back. Even the carpets upstairs are soggy,” says Mr Gavin.

The two-bedroom, two-reception house, which has a more decent garden than you might expect, is part of a scheme of early 1900s terraced and semi-detached houses that were built for ex-British servicemen.

“I’ve had the run of guys in jumpers through, with pencils above their ears, looking at it; it really does give a chance to the right buyer to add value to this house and location,” says Mr Gavin.
