Watch: Cork's oldest barbers to close after 87 years

Michael 'Mick' Moriarty, whose father Peter opened the Baldy Barber more than 87 years ago, has confirmed the shop will close on November 8. Speaking to the Irish Examiner last year, Mick stated high operating costs, including VAT as one of the reasons the shop was going up for sale.

Moriarty's first opened its doors in 1937, founded by Mick's late father, Peter Moriarty, on Merchant’s Quay. It later moved to Blackpool, where Mick took over the shop in 1971. In a statement on social media this week, Mick thanked local patrons and said, "I’ll miss the chats, the laughs, and the people....but I’ll always be grateful for the memories."
