Ireland will bask in the sun on St Patrick's Day, but it may be worth packing a woolly jumper for any parade after a bitter bank holiday weekend.

Met Éireann made their latest weather forecast at 6am on Friday, and while it'll be a mixed bag to begin, conditions should smooth themselves out by Saturday.

Some parts of the island will have woken up to rain and showers, and these outbreaks will continue in the east and south, with hail possible.

However, brighter conditions will soon spread across the country on Friday afternoon. It will remain nippy, with temperatures reaching highs of between 6C and 9C.

Similar to Thursday night, things will turn frosty once the sun goes down, with icy patches in places, according to Met Éireann.

Things will drop as low as -3C in some areas.

Naturally, this will result in cold and frosty conditions on Saturday morning, though things will remain mainly dry throughout the day with patchy cloud in the afternoon, as temperatures again fail to reach higher than 9°C.

After another cold night with lows of -1C, the best of the sunshine will be in the east and northeast of the country on Sunday in highs of 10C.

St Patrick's Day will begin with a few light showers, but the good news for anyone heading to parades across the island is that it will remain mostly dry.

There will be more cloud than there has been, but the latest projections see highs of 7C to 10C.

In recent years, the holiday has seen snow or sleet fall.

However, as it stands, there is no chance of that in 2025 due to a sustained system of high pressure in the Atlantic Ocean.

Things are set to become a little more unsettled into next week, but Met Éireann says the picture is a little unclear.
