A young man who went to the rescue of a woman in County Antrim was stabbed three times in the leg and arm, it emerged today.

A young man who went to the rescue of a woman in County Antrim was stabbed three times in the leg and arm, it emerged today.

The man, who is in his 20s, saw a woman being threatened by a man with a knife in Drumawillan Park in Ballycastle at 11.15pm last night.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said that when he tried to restrain the attacker, he received three stab wounds to his leg and arm.

“He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries and was later released,” said a spokeswoman.

The woman was unhurt in the incident and her attacker was arrested by police.

“He is currently helping police with their inquiries into the incident for which a motive has et to be established,” said the PSNI spokeswoman.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information on the incident to contact them.
